The instructions below are included for reference only.
Windows
- Install the latest version of iTunes from the Microsoft Store.
- Plug your iPad mini 5 (WiFi) in to your PC.
- Open iTunes, and navigate to your iPad mini 5 (WiFi).
- Hold the Shift key on your keyboard, and press "Restore".
- Select the
iPad_Spring_2019_17.7_21H16_Restore.ipsw
file that you downloaded.
- Wait for the restore to complete, and the iPad mini 5 (WiFi) to reboot.
macOS
- Plug your iPad mini 5 (WiFi) in to your Mac.
- Navigate to your iPad mini 5 (WiFi) in Finder.
- Hold the Option or Alt key on your keyboard, and press "Restore".
- Select the
iPad_Spring_2019_17.7_21H16_Restore.ipsw
file that you downloaded.
- Wait for the restore to complete, and the iPad mini 5 (WiFi) to reboot.
Linux
- Install idevicerestore.
- Plug your iPad mini 5 (WiFi) in to your PC.
- Open a terminal, and navigate to the IPSW file that you downloaded, e.g.
cd ~/Downloads
- To perform a full erase restore, type
idevicerestore -e iPad_Spring_2019_17.7_21H16_Restore.ipsw
and press enter.
- Wait for the restore to complete, and the iPad mini 5 (WiFi) to reboot.
Windows
- Open PowerShell, and navigate to the IPSW file that you downloaded, e.g.
cd Downloads
- Type
Get-FileHash iPad_Spring_2019_17.7_21H16_Restore.ipsw -Algorithm SHA1
- The output of the command should match the following checksum:
61add02cc6508fdc9529565b4bca7bbc57875cd6
. If it doesn't, you may need to redownload the file.
macOS

- Transcripts let you follow an episode with text that highlights in sync with the audio in English, Spanish, French and German
- Episode text can be read in full, searched for a word or phrase, tapped to play from a specific point and used with accessibility features such as Text Size, Increase Contrast, and VoiceOver
This update also includes the following enhancements and bug fixes:
- Music recognition lets you add songs you have identified to your Apple Music Playlists and Library
- Business updates you opt into keep you informed of order status, flight notifications, fraud alerts or other transactions from trusted businesses in Messages for Business
- Apple Cash virtual card numbers enable you to pay with Apple Cash at merchants that don’t yet accept Apple Pay by typing in your number from Wallet or using Safari AutoFill
- Fixes an issue where contact pictures are blank in Find My
- Safari Favorites Bar adds an option to show only icons for websites
