Windows

  1. Install the latest version of iTunes from the Microsoft Store.
  2. Plug your iPhone 8 (Global) in to your PC.
  3. Open iTunes, and navigate to your iPhone 8 (Global).
  4. Hold the Shift key on your keyboard, and press "Restore".
  5. Select the iPhone_4.7_P3_14.4_18D52_Restore.ipsw file that you downloaded.
  6. Wait for the restore to complete, and the iPhone 8 (Global) to reboot.

macOS

  1. Plug your iPhone 8 (Global) in to your Mac.
  2. Navigate to your iPhone 8 (Global) in Finder.
  3. Hold the Option or Alt key on your keyboard, and press "Restore".
  4. Select the iPhone_4.7_P3_14.4_18D52_Restore.ipsw file that you downloaded.
  5. Wait for the restore to complete, and the iPhone 8 (Global) to reboot.

Linux

  1. Install idevicerestore.
  2. Plug your iPhone 8 (Global) in to your PC.
  3. Open a terminal, and navigate to the IPSW file that you downloaded, e.g. cd ~/Downloads
  4. To perform a full erase restore, type idevicerestore -e iPhone_4.7_P3_14.4_18D52_Restore.ipsw and press enter.
  5. Wait for the restore to complete, and the iPhone 8 (Global) to reboot.

Windows

  1. Open PowerShell, and navigate to the IPSW file that you downloaded, e.g. cd Downloads
  2. Type Get-FileHash iPhone_4.7_P3_14.4_18D52_Restore.ipsw -Algorithm SHA1
  3. The output of the command should match the following checksum: 9162ab7739112bc2574e7f73a75b5e2d409f2a85. If it doesn't, you may need to redownload the file.

iOS 14.4 includes the following improvements for your iPhone:

  • Smaller QR codes can be recognized by Camera
  • Option to classify Bluetooth device type in Settings for correct identification of headphones for audio notifications
  • Notifications for when the camera on your iPhone is unable to be verified as a new, genuine Apple camera in iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

This release also fixes the following issues:

  • Image artifacts could appear in HDR photos taken with iPhone 12 Pro
  • Fitness widget may not display updated Activity data
  • Typing may be delayed and word suggestions may not appear in the keyboard
  • The keyboard may not come up in the correct language in Messages
  • Audio stories from the News app in CarPlay may not resume after being paused for spoken directions or Siri
  • Enabling Switch Control in Accessibility may prevent phone calls from being answered from the Lock Screen
